1 > 2 : Idea

When I watch films, I quite often amuse myself by thinking of things that aren't there but I find would be a funny take if they were. For example, if there is a grand piece of music and the camera is chasing somebody, in a thriller for example, I imagine the person running is being chased by the orchestra or that the orchestra is actually there determining the actions by what they play. This gave me another idea for the summer project.

The piece of music creates imagery of something spectacular for me, such as a landscape or a form of birth.
The scene could start off with an egg in the foreground and some spectacular scenery in the background. As the camera turns with the egg still as the focus, in 180 degrees the orchestra would be sat there playing the music next to the egg. From this idea I thought of a funny take that the egg could crack and out pops the conductor in time for the big collaborative section of music.

1 > 2 : Idea

I had an idea this morning while sketching some thumbnails.
I am a huge admirer of surrealist paintings, I love the way they get you to think in such a different way and see things that you might not have seen before. As an idea I'm going to research into 3D surrealist landscapes.
Here are some examples of paintings that hint at what I mean;

Figure 01. The Three Ages of Life, Salvador Dali 1940

Swans Reflecting Elephants, Salvador Dali 1937

Costume Designed for "Mad Tristan" - The Ship, Salvador Dali 1942-3

The Temptation of St. Anthony, Max Ernst 1945

Waterfall, M.C. Escher 1961

Relativity, M.C. Escher 1953

I took these shots last week with the Summer Project in mind....

The feeling I got from seeing this scenery, is the type of feeling I'd like to create for the viewer that sees the result of my summer project. This is my main goal.

1 > 2 Summer Project : Introduction

After a few weeks of brain rest, I've decided to start the summer project, feeling nice and refreshed.

The brief for 1>2 is as follows;
You are to respond imaginatively to the music extract allocated you at time of briefing. It may inspire environments, character(s), or idea for an animated short.

Phil's Mysterious blue box offered us some really interesting clips of music.
Mine of which turned out to be 'Soundscape 7'.

With this clip on a continuous loop, I sat down for an hour with some paper and watercolour paints and splashed down whatever came to mind.
The main thoughts were of a landscape, very vast and beautiful. As I haven't done much in the way of landscapes before this will be an excellent excuse to reach into an area I don't know much about, and stretch out from that well known artistic comfort zone :)
